Joseph N. Diaz served as a gunners mate on the S.S. CYRUS H. MCCORMICK, the S.S. EUGENE FIELD, the S.S. CHANCELLORVILLE, the S.S. JAMES E. HOWARD and the S.S. GOLDEN EAGLE. Joe was aboard the S.S. EUGENE FIELD during the Leuthen wolfpack attacks in the fall of 1943 as part of convoy ON-202. He was also aboard the S.S. CYRUS H. MCCORMICK during the D-Day invasion, making five round trips between England and Omaha and Utah beaches starting 6 June 1944. He lived in Greenport, New York. His proud son, Tony, reports that Joseph passed away 9 April 2008 after a long illness at the age of 83, and was buried with full military honors.
