Charles O'Connor

Charles O’Connor was born December 17, 1923, in Brookline, Massachusetts, to
Hazel Thompson of Thomaston, Maine, and Charles O’Connor, originally of Killarney, Ireland.
He passed away on December 26, 2009, at the age of 86 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He was
predeceased by his loving wife, Ruth. He is survived by his loving daughter, Janet O.
Robinson of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and his sisters, Mary Vevier, Catherine Pitari and Hazel
Young, all of South Boston, Massachusetts.

Charles O’Connor served honorably in the World War II US Navy Armed Guard as a signalman.
Charles served on:

SS KEYSTONE
SS FLAGLER
SS JOHN P HOLLAND
SS JAMES LYKES

Charles was aboard SS KEYSTONE when it was sunk by enemy action 450 miles west of the Azores
on March 13, 1943. Charles and most of his shipmates survived the sinking.
