Navy Armed Guards LT Hirsch Nathan Schwartz, Gunners Mate Grover Cleveland Redding

The photograph below shows gunnery officer LT Hirsch Nathan Schwartz on the left and Gunners Mate Grover Cleveland Redding on the right. LT Schwartz is holding a 5"38 powder charge while GM Redding is holding the projectile. Both LT Schwartz and GM Redding were from Schulenburg, Texas, and were good friends in civilian life. They are shown on the SS PEROTE. Both are now deceased but if you knew LT Schwartz contact his daughter, Phyllis Hengst, at gthumbb@msn.com. Former Armed Guard webmaster Tom Bowerman went through boot camp with Grover Redding; they were also crewmates together on their first ship.

U.S.N. Armed Guard World War II Veterans Association

The U.S.N. Armed Guard World War II Veterans Association is the official organization of U.S. Navy Armed Guard veterans. PLEASE NOTE With the passing of CA Lloyd in November 2021, no new activity has taken place with the exception of Armed Guard Veteran Clarence “Korky” Korker in Florida taking up the effort. All mailing lists are lost and I do not have any of CA’s information. I would like to keep the Veterans Association alive and hope that AG Veteran family members will help to contribute to keeping their memory alive by contributing to this site.
