John M. Edgar
In Loving Memory of John Matthew Edgar
John Matthew Edgar was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania March 9, 1922. John
passed away January 7, 1985 at the home of a son in El Paso, Texas. John was
cremated and at his instructions, his ashes were deposited into the Delaware
River, in Philadelphia, so he could enjoy a slow journey back to the sea.
John served in the World War II Navy Armed Guard, honorably, after Boot Training
at the US Naval Training Station Sampson. He was assigned to the Arned Guard
Center at Little Creek and the Armed Guard Center in Brooklyn, New York.
John served on the SS Exceller, the SS Benjamin H Latrobe and the SS Fort
Cornwallis. He served in the American, European and Asiatic Pacific Theaters of War.
John was well liked and respected by his shipmates and his officers.
