Maxwell L. Forward served on the S.S. Esso Providence, S.S. Carl Schurz, S.S. William J. Gray, and the S.S. John P. Altgeld. Max lives in Beverly, Massachusetts. Max enjoyed the sea and refused shore duty at the end of the war and served aboard two ships with just a two man gun crew. Later, Max joined the Merchant Marine as a third mate and obtained his second mate license.
