Norman Frost Gabrielsen - From his service record: Meritorious Performance of Duty - Performed creditable service as a member of the Armed Guard Crew of a merchant vessel during the battle of Salerno Bay 11 to 17 September 1943. Throughout the six day period during which the ship was subjected to some 35 air attacks, the men of the Navy gun crew gallantly manned their battle stations and set up a sustained and accurate barrage of shellfire which inflicted severe damage on the hostile planes.
