Wesley L. Currie
Wesley F. Currie, Sr.
Wesley L. Currie served on the SS Lewis Luckenbach and the SS Patrick Henry. Wesley says that it seems like time flies and yesterday was August 29, 1941 and he was at the San Diego Destroyer Base, was 18 years old, and was learning to fire the 3″50 and the 5″51 guns. He went on to Treasure Island and President Roosevelt informed him that the Japs had bombed Pearl Harbor. He was put on guard duty with 30 caliber machine guns and apparently the Japs backed off from attacking them when they saw what they were up against. Wes and his crew went aboard the President Coolage for a short while and were then sent to Brooklyn. He served on the SS Lewis Luckenbach and then on the SS Patrick Henry. Wes lives in Baytown, Texas and can be contacted by email at rtcegen@hotmail.com. Wes is a great guy with a good sense of humor and you are encouraged to get in touch with him.
